We asked B, 16 years to write a short blog post about what Outreach youth has been like for them.
Hi, I’ve been going to Outreach for about 18 months now, and I love it.
Finding a place where you can truly be yourself is everything, and that’s what I found at Outreach. Walking into the group for the first time made me feel so nervous, but as soon as I sat down and as the session went on, it felt like a breath of fresh air. I have come to realise that It’s more than a youth group; for lots of us going along, it’s a lifeline, especially when you’re dealing with all the ups and downs of being a young LGBTQ+ person in Suffolk.
What is the best part? It’s not just about chatting (though the youth workers are amazing for that!).
It’s a safe, safe place where you can be you, and we plan some great things to do while we’re there as well —think karaoke, movies, mega Uno games, art workshops, cooking, information sessions, and just chillin’ where everyone gets what you’re going through.
So if I’m catching up with friends or meeting new people who have come along (we all feel nervous at that point even now), everyone just “gets it” I always have a good time a good time. And if you ever need to chat, there’s always someone there to listen.
Outreach youth has seriously helped me feel less alone and more confident in who I am. It’s not just a group; it’s like finding your tribe. If you’re looking for a space where you can just be yourself while also meeting new people and having some fun in a safe, supportive space, this is it.
Thank you, Outreach youth, you’ve helped me so much
